City Theatre presents Carmen Rivera-Tirado's La Gringa, a dynamic comedy with elements of magical realism and the story of a young woman's search for identity.

The protagonist is U.S. mainland-born Maria Elena Garcia who is visiting her family in Puerto Rico during the holidays. Everyone she encounters views her as a "gringa" (foreigner). If she's a Puerto Rican on the mainland but an American in Puerto Rico, Maria concludes that she is nobody everywhere. Through a story of reconciliation and hope, Maria discovers that identity is an essence she has had in her heart all along.

La Gringa is presented in English with Spanish supertitles. The play is part of the Adrienne Arsht Center's 2023-2024 Theater UpClose Series.
