Description

Friday, November 3, 2023

11:00am and 11:30am

MOCA NOMI

770 NE 125th Street

North Miami FL 33161

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami will present Juan Francisco Elso: Por America, the first comprehensive retrospective of the Havana-born artist’s work and legacy. Elso was a leading artist in the first generation to be educated in post-revolution Cuba before his untimely death at the age of 32. His best-known sculpture, Por America (for America 1986), is an icon of late 20th century Latin art and a precursor to today’s decolonial perspectives. This exhibition brings together nearly all of Elso’s mature oeuvre, including newly discovered drawings and works previously believed lost.

There will be two docent-led tours: The first tour will start at 11:00am and the second tour will start at 11:30am.
